Platinum Information

Platinum is a metal first made known in Europe in 1736. Native platinum occurs mostly in small, irregular grains, generally containing a little iron. Pure platinum is almost as white as silver, takes a brilliant polish and is highly ductile and malleable. It is the heaviest of the ordinary metals and the least expansive when heated. It undergoes no change from the combined agency of air and moisture, and it may be exposed to the strongest heat of a smith's forge, without suffering either oxidation or fusion.
