History Of Jewelry Pins and Brooches

Pins and brooches belong to a later period of history during mankind, during which clothing has been regularly worn. The primary need for clothing was most likely climatic. Clothing most likely originated in colder climates where more warmth was needed. This begs the question, did primitive man have more hair covering his body. The first clothing articles were probably crafted from knotted grass or leaves. Later animal skins were most likely used. Clothing was most likely held together by rope like material, and were most likely very difficult to remove.

Later pins were most likely used made of thorns, sharpened bone or almost anything else durable and sharp. It is likely that the Romans developed the first bronze pins, and Britain may not have been too far behind. As time went on and people became more modern pins and brooches materials became more modern as well. They were beginning to be made out of silver, bronze, copper, and tin. They were oven being ornamented with designs and precious gems. Religious symbols and patterns symbolizing a deeper meaning were also being put on pins and brooches.
